1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how the Google Chrome extension “Jasno — German words, simply” (the “Extension”), developed as part of the Herr Jasno project, handles information.

The Extension helps you quickly review German vocabulary in a micro-learning format: word cards with Ukrainian (DE→UA) or English (DE→EN) translations. The dictionary works offline. The Extension is free and ad-free. We do not require sign-up and we do not receive your personal data on our servers through the Extension.

Because the Extension stores data only locally on your device (chrome.storage.local) and does not send it to Herr Jasno servers, our role as controller under the GDPR is limited. For any privacy questions, please use the contact details above.

3. Data stored locally

All data the Extension stores about you stays only in your browser via chrome.storage.local. We do not sync it to the cloud or send it to Herr Jasno servers.

This may include:

  • selected language pair (DE→UA or DE→EN);
  • card display settings (transcription, plural, example sentence, font size, number of translations shown — 1 or 2);
  • shuffle words on/off;
  • word filters (level A1–B2, part of speech, theme);
  • IDs of words marked as “already know”;
  • automatic reminder on/off, interval (10–1440 min), and auto-close timer;
  • last viewed index in the word deck;
  • Extension window position on screen;
  • Extension menu language (Ukrainian or English), if changed.

4. What we do not collect

The Extension does not collect names, email, passwords, browsing history, page content, location, advertising IDs, or payment data.

The Extension does not send any learning data to Herr Jasno servers. Dictionaries (bundled DE→UA and DE→EN JSON files) are included in the Extension package, loaded on your device, and used offline. The Extension makes no network requests to Herr Jasno servers.

5. Chrome permissions

The Extension requests these permissions:

  • storage — save your settings and “already know” word list locally on your device.
  • alarms — show automatic reminders to open a word card on your chosen schedule.
  • system.display — read screen work area so the popup opens near the extension icon. Used only for positioning; display information is not stored on servers or sent to us.

The Extension does not use content scripts and does not read the content of websites you visit.

6. Third parties

We do not sell or share chrome.storage.local data with advertisers or analytics networks.

Google Chrome as a platform may process technical data under Google’s own policies. See Google’s documentation for Chrome and extensions.

7. Retention and deletion

Data remains on your device until you:

  • uninstall the Extension from your browser, or
  • clear extension data manually: Chrome Settings → Extensions → Jasno → Remove data, or
  • change or reset settings in the Extension UI (⚙).

8. Your rights (GDPR)

Legal basis. Because all data is stored only locally on your device, we rely on legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — keeping settings needed for the Extension to work on your device.

Where the GDPR applies, you have the right to:

  • access personal data you sent us directly (e.g. by email to edelhirschx@gmail.com);
  • rectification or erasure of such data;
  • lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

Data stored only in chrome.storage.local is controlled by you via the browser (see §7).

9. Children

The Extension is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal data through the Extension.

Minimum age: 16 (EU, GDPR) / 13 (USA, COPPA; UK, UK GDPR).

10. Changes

We may update this Policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use after changes means you acknowledge the updated Policy, to the extent permitted by law.
